Swiss government announces new permit quota numbers for 2021
The federal council of Switzerland has stipulated the annual quotas for third country specialists and EU/EFTA service-providers as well as a separate quota for UK nationals after Brexit for the year 2021.
The quotas for non-EU citizens remain unchanged. In the coming year a total of 8’500 specialists from third countries will be admitted:
- 4’500 residence permits B
- 4’000 short-term permits L
- Permits for 120 days or up to max. 4
- consecutive months are not under quota
Quotas for EU/EFTA service providers remain unchanged:
- 500 residence permits B
- 3’000 short-term permits L
- The quota will be released on a quarterly basis.
- Permits for 120 days or up to max. 4 consecutive months are not under quota.
In addition, the council confirmed quotas for UK citizen:
- 2’100 residence permits B
- 1’400 short-term permits L
- The quota will be released on a quarterly basis.
This quota for the UK is valid for one year and released on a quarterly basis. For the time being, permits for British citizens are not subject to federal approval. Should no agreement on a future migration regime be reached in the course of next year, the separate UK quotas may be integrated into the third country quota for the year 2022.
